Amy Turner, RN, BSN, MMHC, CPC, CHC, CHIAP is a Manager with GlassRatner offering widespread background in internal audit and health care management. She is a Registered Nurse, Certified Professional Coder, board Certified in Healthcare Compliance and a Certified Healthcare Internal Auditor. Amy's combination of clinical experience, coding education and revenue cycle experience offer insights that speak well to both the clinician and the revenue cycle expert. Amy's experience includes working in large and small private practices, academic facilities as well as with hospital-based physicians. She is responsible for leading and conducting various compliance and internal reviews across a broad variety of settings.

Most recently, Ms. Turner served as an expert witness for the Tennessee Department of Health regarding physician documentation and billing practices. She has conducted documentation, coding and billing assessment for physician practices, ancillary providers, hospitals, academic medical centers and has also done work on behalf of payer special investigation units.

Prior to consulting, Ms. Turner served as a Director of Billing Compliance for a multi-specialty billing group. Her oversight included direct responsibility for 3 accounts generating $1.6 million in revenue monthly. She consulted with physicians and practices to implement policies and protocols to adhere to coding regulations. She conducted analysis of denial trends with appropriate education based on review findings. She also reviewed coding, billing, documentation and reimbursement system for potential non-compliant activities.

In addition, Ms. Turner served as Director of Billing Education and Compliance for a 55-clinic pain management organization. She consulted with Operations and Revenue Cycle teams as new patient therapies were instituted to assure proper documentation and coding/billing practices. She developed education for 140 providers regarding proper coding and documentation requirements. Ms. Turner educated billing and coding staff concerning proper coding practices. She assisted legal counsel with prepayment review process (now known targeted probe and educate process), as well as review and response to CMS correspondence and compliance audits. She worked collaboratively with various vendors and consultants for best practices on billing and documentation. She worked with Laboratory management to promote compliance with local coverage determinations and payer policies as well as proper billing procedures.

Then, Ms. Turner served as the Clinical Manager of the Neurosciences Patient Care Center at a large academic facility with over 10,000 employees. Her responsibilities included budget management, staff management and coordination of staffing between cost centers. She was responsible for provider education regarding proper coding and medical necessity requirements, including those applicable to a teaching environment.

Prior to her administrative roles, she was a charge nurse in the Intensive Care Unit for 9 years as well as a clinical instructor of Critical Care at Middle Tennessee State University.

Ms. Turner holds an Associate Degree in Nursing, a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing as well as Master of Management in Healthcare from Vanderbilt University. She is currently a member of the American Academy of Professional Coder's (AAPC), the Association of Healthcare Internal Auditors (AHIA), the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA) and the Society for Pain Practice Management (SPPM).
