Pian Chen

Dr. Pian Chen is an economist and statistician with over a decade of experience in financial modeling and antitrust litigation. She works with testifying experts and counsel and manages matters involving terabytes of financial transaction data. With expertise in econometrics, Dr. Chen develops sophisticated quantitative models to establish liabilities and measure damages for matters involving horizontal price-fixing behavior, illegal trading schemes in financial markets (e.g., spoofing), product hop and pay-to-delay generic entry, energy price manipulation, mortgage-backed security fraud, mergers, and intellectual properties. Her experience spans a wide range of industries, including finance, healthcare, construction, semiconductor, chemicals, rare minerals, steel, oil, electricity, transportation, and agricultural products.

Dr. Chen is an expert in Chinese markets, trade issues, and government regulations. Her recent article "Measuring Antitrust Damages in the Presence of Foreign Government Regulation" is published on Antitrust Bulletin, Second Issue, 2019.

Dr. Chen received her Ph.D. in Agricultural and Resource Economics from University of California, Davis. She taught econometric courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels at Victoria University in New Zealand between 2007 and 2009. In October 2009, she started her consulting career at Bates White and worked closely with Prof. Halbert White in developing cutting-edge techniques to select appropriate variables for antitrust damage models.
