G. Matt Barberich, Jr., CPA/ABV/CFF/CGMA, CIA, CFE, ASA, MBA is an accounting and financial professional with over 16 years of experience.  Prior to joining GlassRatner, Mr. Barberich provided litigation support, business valuation, and forensic accounting services for MarksNelson, LLC in Kansas City, Missouri from 2004 through 2018.  He was an associate of Taylor, Perky & Parker, LLC during 2003.

Mr. Barberich has led numerous litigation support and forensic accounting engagements involving the quantification of losses from alleged embezzlements and other asset misappropriations; accounting irregularities; calculation of lost profits and other economic damages; critiques and rebuttals of lost profits and other economic damages; shareholder and business disputes; statutory and/or regulatory compliance; and whistleblower investigations.

Additionally, Mr. Barberich has also performed hundreds of valuations of closely-held companies for estate and gift tax purposes; income tax compliance; estate planning; appraisal review; shareholder agreements; marital dissolutions; shareholder disputes; and dissenting shareholder and minority oppression lawsuits.

Highlights of Relevant Engagements:

  • Retained as rebuttal expert witness regarding Plaintiff’s claim(s) of lost profit damages resulting from alleged breach of contract and tortious interference claims for a corporate wellness provider;
  • Retained as rebuttal expert witness regarding Plaintiff’s claims that a closely-held company was sold to an insider for less than reasonably equivalent value;
  • Retained as forensic accountant for the quantification of an embezzlement from an assisted-living facility provider.  Supported client’s proof-of-loss claim for relevant insurance policies and assisted the FBI and United States Attorney in criminal prosecution and sentencing;
  • Retained as forensic accountant for a community bank regarding alleged fraudulent reconciliations and inaccurate accounting of the bank’s correspondence account.  Presented findings to the bank’s board of directors and assisted the community bank in presenting its findings to the FDIC and state regulatory authorities; and
  • Retained as forensic accountant to quantify alleged misappropriation of assets from a medical practice.  Assisted local law enforcement, the FBI and Secret Service in their investigations.

Mr. Barberich holds a BBA in Accounting and a MBA with a Concentration in Accounting from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas.  He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Institute of Internal Auditors, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, and the American Society of Appraisers.
